How to make your own podcast!
All you need is a computer with a microphone. An internal mic will do fine, though podcast purists will tell you that you need loads of expensive equipment – Clearly they are wrong and I think that attitude really misses the point of the internet – sure, some podcasts may not have the production values of mainstream radio, but if it’s production values you are after then listen to your local FM station and enjoy it – if music and sounds from the farside of the audio galaxy is more your taste, then the interweb is your place.
So, you have the computer? Follow the following steps
1) Download this
Audacity is brilliant free sound editing tool – I use it to make Density of Sound and it has never let me down. You can fade tracks in and out, cut them to size and join them together and record your links directly into it. Perfect!
2) Browse these sites for music
3) Make your podcast
It’s good to include a tracklist and links to the artist’s page so make sure you take note of the tracks/artists as you go along – in fact, most people who let you use the music do so in the expectation you will credit them for it – Read more about the legalities here.
4) Upload your podcast
I use podomatic though there are lots of sites you can use.
5) Let us know about it!
We’d love to listen to it and if you link to us, we’ll link to you. If we really like it, we’ll stick a nice review of your work up. Contact us here
Good luck and happy podcasting!
